HOUSTON (ZP) — A man was rushed to Houston Methodist Hospital today after authorities say he was bitten during an altercation outside Romero’s Pub in the 1600 block of Richmond Avenue.
HPD Detective Cedric McMillan confirmed the suspect was apprehended after a struggle and that the attack is believed to be random.
Officers responded to a call from the owner of the local business saying two men had been ejected from the establishment for fighting and that one man appeared to be seriously ill.
Witnesses at the scene say the victim, 42-year-old Jonathan Hopkins, sustained severe injuries they described as “disturbing.”
“I didn’t know you could take a chunk out of somebody’s arm like that,” said one person who witnessed the attack. “They got to do something about these drugs.”
WTLZ reached out to the family of Mr. Hopkins, who confirmed he is being treated in the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist. The family asks for prayers and is thankful for the outpouring of support.
“Jon’s a great guy,” said owner of Romero’s Pub Andrew Romero. “He’s always the one trying to break up a fight. Looks like he bit off more than he could chew this time.”
This investigation is ongoing.
